I made this transcription from photographic copies of pages from the bible of William H. Via of Buckingham County, Virginia. He had married in 1853 and shortly thereafter began the bible record, as it is dated 1859. All of this material was sent to me by Alfred and Eleanor Bryant who made the copies from the originals. They had borrowed the bible from Stephen Via. The publication information on the frontispiece is: Philadelphia, Published By, Jesper Harding, No. 57 South, Third Street, J Harding, Printer, 1849. The Bryants have recently located the extant home and grave of John Lewis Via in Buckingham. I strived to record as true to the original as possible. The words or letters I could not decipher, I marked with "*" and words that I could read, but were marked out, I struck through thus. I have published this information to the WWW as it connects the Via family of Buckingham with the John Via family of eighteenth century Amherst County, Virginia. ~~Edna Barney

Along with the bible copies, the Bryants sent three copies of original marriage certificates from Buckingham County.
By enlarging copies of the large smeared area on page 3 of the FAMILY RECORD, Eleanor Bryant believes that it possibly reads as follows: Martha Via the daughter of Wm Via and wife Phelie died January 6th year 1863 age 72 years. She wrote that the name "Wm Via" was easily defined.
